Puppy

Great Beginnings! Puppy Starter Class (for puppies 8 weeks – 16 weeks old)
Early socialization is critical to a well-balanced pup! The first 16 weeks of a puppy's life is their most critical developmental stage. This is called their primary socialization period and both positive and negative experiences during this time can affect your dog for the rest of their life. In puppies first 16 weeks, they learn how to adapt to life with their human family. Our class will help socialize your pup to new people, other puppies, noises, being handled and how to deal with potentially scary things. Start your puppy off on the right paw to a life that's free of behavior issues!

This class focuses on:
  • house and crate training
  • socialization
  • how to handle mouthing and ankle biting
  • preventing food and toy guarding
  • preparing your puppy for home alone time

Energy Control

Energy Control Class (Puppy Level for pups 11 weeks to 12 months old, Adult Level for dogs over 1 year old)
Take your dog from "I want! I want!" to "may I please?" Puppies and dogs that are barky, jumpy, demanding and major-league leash pullers need to learn self-control. Obedience is important, but dogs need to develop self-control of their energy, without their owners having to constantly tell them what to do. This unique class will teach your dog self-control through "energy management" techniques and exercises. In 6 short weeks your dog will learn:

  • Self-control when excited
  • Owner focus in distracting situations
  • How to manage their energy appropriately
  • How to "escort" visitors in instead of jumping on them
  • New energy control games that YOU control
  • How to switch from aroused to calm—quickly!

Pet Therapy Prep Class

Would you like to share your wonderful dog with people who need some sunshine in their day? Pet Therapy teams are in great demand in our community! Learn the skills needed to safely visit with your dog in hospitals, nursing homes, classrooms, and other facilities. Our goal is top-notch obedience and control in typical visitation situations, appropriate greetings and training your dog to be comfortable around medical equipment, patients, and the sights and sounds of visit environments. This class will focus on preparing teams for the Pet Partner evaluation performed by Delta Society Team Evaluators, but is open to those who may be interested in pet therapy through other organizations.
Additional fee for Delta Society Pet Partners Student Manual if you are interested in being evaluated for pet therapy visits through Delta Society.
